Tour ECC and Enjoy the Latest in Ophthalmic Diagnostic and Treatment Equipment.

Multifocal IOLs are now used in up to 40% of cataract surgery in Europe and the US.  Dr. Pierre Mardelli was the first surgeon to have used it in Lebanon and the Middle East back in 2004. Come benefit from our years of experience and let us show you the difference.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) and around the eyelids for a short period of time (temporary). At ECC we aim for a more "natural look".

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness.  ECC acquired the latest Visual Field Analyzer from Haag Streit and OCT from Optovue. Both are vital for earlier diagnosis and follow-up of this blinding disease.

The newest generation excimer laser from AMO: The VISX S4 with the iDesign Advanced Wavescan Studio (TM). This is the first system of its kind in Lebanon and the Middle East. Go ahead and call us for more info.

Custom LASIK with the iDesign Wavescan Studio System combines two exciting technologies to reshape the cornea to reduce or eliminate visual distortions. This technology has the potential to improve how much and how well you can see as well as reduce the risks of post-LASIK complications.

LASIKis a refractive surgical procedure that corrects your vision, thus lessening your dependence on any corrective devices such as contact lenses or eyeglasses. At ECC we strive to offer you the latest technology such as Custom LASIK using the iDesign Wavescan.

With the new aquisition of the latest generation excimer laser, ECC is setting the bar ever higher. We strive to provide our patients with the best customer-care experience and quality of vision available today.

Cataract Surgery

What are Cataracts?

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. Cataracts are the leading cause of treatable blindness in all areas of the world, especially in adults 55 and older.

Cataracts

Contrary to popular belief, a cataract is not a "film" over the eye. Rather it is a gradual thickening of the lens that causes the lens to become so clouded that light is either distorted or cannot reach the back of the eye (the retina) for transmission to the brain. When left untreated, cataracts will eventually cause blindness in most cases.

Cataract surgery is a procedure to remove the lens of your eye and, in most cases, replace it with an artificial lens. This is performed by an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) on an outpatient basis, which means you don't have to stay in the hospital after the surgery. Cataract surgery is very common and is generally a safe procedure.

Phacoemulsification is the most commonly performed cataract procedure in the developed world.

Phacoemulsification (Phaco) is the preferred method in most cases. It involves the use of a machine with an ultrasonic handpiece equipped with a titanium or steel tip. The tip vibrates at ultrasonic frequency (40,000 Hz) and the lens material is emulsified. A second fine instrument (sometimes called a cracker or chopper) may be used from a side port to facilitate cracking or chopping of the nucleus into smaller pieces. Fragmentation into smaller pieces makes emulsification easier, as well as the aspiration of cortical material (soft part of the lens around the nucleus). After phacoemulsification of the lens nucleus and cortical material is completed, a dual irrigation-aspiration (I-A) probe or a bimanual I-A system is used to aspirate out the remaining peripheral cortical material. A foldable lens or IOL is then inserted through the small incision into the eye.

At ECC, we specialize in topical anesthesia cataract surgery. Only a topical anesthesic is used to numb the eye avoiding the danger of sticking a needle behind the eye.  We use the best IOLs on the market and we were the pioneers in the newest multifocal IOLs like the Restor lens since 2003.   The new toric IOLs have made it much easier to treat the preop astigmatism in our patient population.

Come see for yourself why we pride ourselves as THE BEST CATARACT PLACE IN TOWN.
